"Big Fish - Many Fish" characterizes the World Class fishing you will find in Vava’u, Tonga.

The fishery offers "YEAR ROUND" billfish with 5 species: Blue Marlin are the predominant species followed by Sailfish, Black Marlin, Striped Marlin and Short Bill Spearfish. Swordfish /Broadbill also abound in Tongan waters especially around the numerous sea mounts and deep water drop offs.

Other common pelagic species include Yellow Fin Tuna, Dog Tooth Tuna, Mahimahi, Wahoo, Giant Trevally and a host of other IGFA reef species such as Coral Trout.

Tonga currently holds three Pacific Sailfish record line classes:

1. 24kg line class Male 95.5kg
(largest sailfish caught in the world since 1947)
2. Small Fry - Male 55kg
3. Small Fry - Female 45kg (application pending)
